Bahrain Cabinet Demands Accountability Over Hormuz, Condemns Houthi and Drone Attacks on Saudi Arabia

Bahrain’s Cabinet on Monday said that world peace requires respect of national sovereignty and responsibility for acts of aggression, as ministers denounced a spate of recent attacks in the Gulf and reaffirmed the kingdom’s position on Strait of Hormuz navigation.

The meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa at Gudaibiya Palace called for compensation to victims of regional conflicts, severing sources of armed groups and settling disputes through legal channels rather than force, as ministers said principles were building-blocks for lasting peace.

On Hormuz, the Cabinet restated that any arrangement governing passage through the strait must be grounded in the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and formally endorsed by the International Maritime Organisation.

Ministers insisted the framework must guarantee unrestricted transit for all vessels — free of fees, permits or discrimination — and include every GCC member state, given how directly the strait’s security is tied to the region’s energy and trade supply chains.

The Cabinet also condemned a drone strike on the East-West oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh and Medina regions, which it said originated from Iraqi territory.

Ministers described the attack as a clear breach of international law and the UN Charter, warning that targeting energy infrastructure threatens the wider security of regional supplies.

Separately, the Cabinet denounced renewed attacks by Iran-backed Houthi forces on civilian and economic sites in Saudi Arabia, alongside continued threats to commercial shipping in the Red Sea and Bab Al Mandab Strait. Ministers characterised the pattern as a serious escalation that violates both international and humanitarian law.

The meeting also touched on domestic matters, with ministers congratulating recipients of the 2026 Unesco King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa Prize for the use of information and communication technologies in education, and highlighting progress in strengthening Bahrain’s constitutional institutions under King Hamad’s leadership.
